The U18’s chess season got off to a good start this month with a coaching and tournament taking place
at Lincoln on Saturday 6 October 2007. There were 23 players from 13 schools in 9 towns taking part.
The aim was to provide an opportunity for U18’s to play
competitive chess and improve their standard of play, coaching was
provided by Robert Dale and looked at a game between Samuel Milson and
Ankush Kandelwhal that was played at the UK Chess Challenge Terafinal,
along with two puzzles from the October Chess Magazine. The
tournament this month was split into major and minor sections.
Major section winner was Hannah Dale winning
all 5 of her games. Amy Milson, Daniel Stevens and Samuel
Milson all ended on 3 out of 5 points, Amy was awarded 2nd prize and
Daniel 3rd on the basis of head-to head results.
Daniel was awarded the Giantkiller award for his win against Samuel
Milson
Minor section winner was Raj Gowribalan winning all 5 of his games, 2nd
place went to Misha Chapman with Adam Robinson being awarded the
Best ungraded player.

Update from the summer…….
Hannah Dale played for England in the summer in the Faber Cup held at
Dublin. Hannah won the individual tournament amongst the Faber
girls, beating the England Board 1 in the process. Hannah also
played In the Major Open in Great Yarmouth Hannah scoring 4/11, this
was good, considering Hannah was almost the lowest graded player there.
Samuel Milson took part in the Terafinals in August, Samuel finished on
10 points overall joint 16th. Amy Milson played in the Challenger
at the Terafinal and finished on 7 points joint 36th.
The next U18 tournament will be on Saturday 9 Februart, 2008
